Recorded in New York City with a top piano trio (Ray Gallon, Cameron Brown, Anthony Pinciotti), the Night We Couldn't Say Good Night was released on Gut String Records in 2019. It is a collection of re-imagined standards alongside Verbrugge's own lyrics on four tracks. The title track is a romantic bossanova penned by Verbrugge herself. You're Almost Perfect was inspired by a conversation on an airplane with a serial monogamist who just couldn't seem to decide to move on from an imperfect relationship. Will Friedwald, author of many books about vocal jazz, songbook singers, and music critic for Wall Street Journal wrote the liner notes.
